SKINCARE FOR STARTERS – ACIDS

Hi !

As part of my 19in19 I want to start writing more content for my blog. so here we are at the start of a new blog series  – ‘skincare for starters’ skincare tips tricks and information for people who may be starting out in skincare , coming back into it or would just like to know more. First off:

ACIDS.

Ok this may seem a bit scary. These acids i’m talking about are specially for your face , exfoliating acids that are going to do wonders for your skin. if you’ve never used any of these before start with a lower % and work up to a higher one.  also make sure your using SPF all the time every day. skincare acids peel your skin and chemically exfoliate your skin too , therefore leaving it prone to sun damage , also even if you cant see the sun , or its raining , snowing or windy you still need to wear an SPF , UV rays can penetrate through all weather so no matter the weather your prone to sun damage when your skin is sensitive.

SALICYLIC ACIDS (BHA)

Salicylic acid is the only BHA i will be putting in this list , its great for unclogging pores as its able to breakdown things like oil , dead skin cells and dirt. to help unclog your pores it penetrates into the skin , to do this it has to break down all the dirt in its way , hence why its so good at clearing up spots.

Salicylic acid is found in a lot of spot treatments and is amazing for oily teenage skin. Here are a few products with salicylic acid that i love and i think you might too.

The Ordinary SA 2% solution £4.20

Kate Somerville spot treatment £49

Mario Badescu drying lotion £16

Nip and Fab teen SA skin range ( pink packaging NOT green ) from £9.99  ( the pads and toner are GREAT )

HYALURONIC ACID (AHA)

One of my most used acids , Hyaluronic acid is in a lot of skincare these days and works wonders on dry skin. hyaluronic acid can hold up too 1000 times its own weight in water by drawing moisture from the environment so its great for someone ( like me ) who has dry skin.

you can find hyaluronic acid in a lot in  plumping glosses and anti ageing products . Due to the plumping effect of the acid its great for anti ageing and helping fine lines. Here are a few products with hyaluronic acid in that I love and I think you might too.

The ordinary HA 2% £5.90

Vichy HA booster £25

*personnel fave* Hylamide low molecular HA £18

CITRIC ACID (AHA)

Citric acid is in a lot of at home face peels thanks to its ability to break down and help get rid of dead skin. Citric acid only penetrates the top layer of the skin so is very gentle and great for mild to sensitive skin , however you shouldn’t be using it daily however using it  2-3 times a week is fine.

Citric acid is found in a lot of at home face peels . Here are a few products with Citric  acid that I love and I think you might too.

KBeauty feel so good face peeling pad £6.99

GLYCOLIC ACID (AHA)

Found in a lot of peels and toners Glycolic Acid is a chemical exfoliant Glycolic dissolves the ‘ glue’ that holds dead skin cells together helping clear them and reveal the new ones. this acid is great for the skin as it helps give a ‘glow’ and is often marketed as a product that will give you that. Thanks to its smaller molecule size it can penetrate into the skin deeper which makes it great at its job of clearing dead skin cells however because of this it can be quite harsh on mild to sensitive skin , so do a little test of the product behind the ear of on the wrist 24H before you use it all over your face.

Glycolic acid is found in a lot of face peels and toners . Here are a few products with Glycolic acid that I love and I think you might too.

Nip and Fab Glycolic fix shot £16

Nip and Fab Glycolic foaming pads £15

The ordinary 7% Glycolic toner £8

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution £6.30

LACTIC ACID (AHA)

Lactic acid , found in milk , is great for moisturising the skin , if you have sensitive skin and find Glycolic too harsh this is definitely one for you. its great for reducing acne , including acne scars , fine lines and other signs of ageing. It does this by stimulating the collagen  in the skin which helps reduce the fine lines and acne scaring.

Lactic acid is great for acne and ageing . Here are a few products with Lactic  acid that I love and I think you might too.

The ordinary 5% lactic acid £5.50 ( available in 10% too )

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution £6.30
